Day 5: Richmond, VA

I am at a conference, not sightseeing, so I won’t bore you with those details. However, I did want to write a brief review of the Wyndham Virginia Crossings Hotel and Conference Center.

I have received excellent service from the employees here as a Wyndham Rewards With ByRequest member: a welcome tray of wine and cheese, a thank-you call, and turndown service.  However, as to the hotel itself, the food is only fair, the décor a bit dated (I think it looks like they’re going for the historic Virginia look, but I prefer something more modern), and the free Wi-Fi is everywhere except the conference center, which makes no sense at all to me in the 21st century. That being said, the guest rooms and facilities are clean, comfortable, and serve their purpose.

  1. My experience has been that the hotels “get” travelers as opposed to airlines. It’s usually very clear that what you’re booking is what you’re going to get. Especially when you’re elite, such as the welcome tray that you received.

    The one thing that still irritates me is the hotels that charge for Internet service. Was it free or included at that property?

  2. The Internet was free everywhere except the conference center area.

    I am not elite with Wyndham, this is their standard “ByRequest” service for all members. But the rewards program itself is terrible.
